dEUS - Vantage Point (2008)

dEUS are a Belgian rock band that have been releasing albums since 1994 while being fronted by Tom Barman. The line up still contains Mauro Pawlowski from their previous album who is know for being a key member in the formation of Belgian contemporary music and is the lead singer of The Evil Superstars. The latest dEUS album Vantage Point continues where their last studio album Pocket Revolution left of in that they are continuing with a more softer aproach to their music. Alot of songs are still upbeat like "Oh Your God", "Favorite Games", "The Architect" and "Is A Robot" which offer some style from their early years. With each listen to the songs the guitar riffs become more attractive espcially in the title track "When She Comes Down".

Peter Murphy - Recall (1997)

Peter Murphy is know to many people as the "godfarther of goth" for being the root of the gothic genre. After the breakup of his former band Bauhaus Peter Murphy embarked on a solo career and had good success in America with the single "Cuts You Up". Peter had a seven year gap inbetween making solo albums from 1995-2002. The only new meterial to be released was the Recall EP. This featured two re-recorded songs from past albums and three other b-sides. The original version of the two songs to me seemed so much stronger most likely because the new versions key musical instrument seem to be keyboards. Prehapse the best song on the EP is "Surrendered" which has a strong "Arabic" theme to it which Peter's voice seems to fit perfectly into it.

Rating: ***

1. Roll Call / Recall - 4:16
2. Indigo Eyes 98 - 6:38
3. Big Love Of A Tiny Fool - 4:05
4. Surrendered - 5:20
5. Big And Tiny (Live) - 6:12

The Saints - Imperious Delirium (2006)

The Saints are a long standing Australian punk rock band formed in 1974. After the departure of the bands key guitarist Ed Kuepper the bands music mellowed out into a soft rock until their hiatus wich lasted until 1997. Chris Bailey has since been trying to reestablish The Saints repuation as a punk rock band. After Marty Willson-Piper of The Church played with them for a short period of time the band was for the first time reduced to a three piece with Chris Bailey playing all the guitars on their new project, Imperious Delirium. The album starts with the song "Drunk In Babylon" which immediately sets the mood with a "dirty" rock sound to the guitars. Some of the great moments in the album have to be Baileys well constructed lyrics in "Je Fuckin' T'Aime" which gives it an added element as a love song. They still have some softer slow songs within the album, for example "Other Side Of The World" but even this still contains the punk rock sound they are trying to maintain. Chris Bailey has achieved exactly what he has set out to do with Imperious Delirium and The Saints remain one of the top rock bands of Australia.

Gargoyle Sox - As The Masters Sleeps (1985)

Gargoyle Sox were a Gothic Rock band from the 80's. They Released their first mini LP in 1985 titled "As The Masters Sleeps". The sound of the band is standard of the first wave of gothic rock music but with the exception of their "freaky" keyboard style which makes them rather hard to classify as what genre it fits into. One of the best features of the band is the fact it is only a two piece act comprised of John Koester and Matt DeWan but they retain the sound of a four piece band not lacking in any area. The stand out track certainly has to be Succubus, especialy with the keyboards in the corus as it creates an atmosphere for the whole LP and tells you what the band is all about.

Rating: ****

1. Evil Exhibition - 4:29
2. Ghost Ship - 3:53
3. Succubus - 4:08
4. Sickness - 3:38
5. Pink Little Playhouse - 3:15
